Provenance Explorer

Search artifacts and records, then inspect their lineage graph when the workspace feature is enabled.

guideReviewed 2026-06-26

The Provenance Explorer is an optional workspace surface. A workspace admin can enable it in workspace settings.

When enabled, open Provenance from the sidebar.

What it does

The explorer lets you:

  • search catalog artifacts such as files, tables, figures, analyses, and documents
  • search records such as protocols, experiments, constructs, and files
  • select an artifact
  • inspect lineage edges reachable from that artifact
  • see when some links are inferred from notebook query logs

Empty or disabled states

If you do not see Provenance in the sidebar, the workspace may not have the feature enabled.

If the page says Provenance Explorer is off, ask a workspace admin to enable it under Settings -> Workspace.

Some figure-to-table links can be inferred from a notebook session query log. Treat inferred lineage as useful evidence, not as a replacement for explicitly linked assay context. The UI should mark inferred links so you know when the system is reconstructing a path rather than reading a direct link.
